MEET AT THE M&T BANK PLAZA
Front and Lake Streets, Owego
Like the popularized "flash mobs," cash mobs aim to draw attention to small businesses, infusing money into the local economy. The idea originated from the latest fad of "Flash mobs," the sudden public performances used to bring attention to any subject. Spreading across the country, cash mobbing is organizing social media users and people willing to come support and spend money in local businesses around the county.
Here's how it will work.
The Tioga County Tourism Office and the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce have selected a specific business to be "Cash mobbed" in March. After this month, businesses will be drawn randomly. But the mobbers will not know until that day!
Rules for mobbers:
1. Spread the word via your social media network! Facebook it, Tweet it, word of mouth-it, talk about it, invite everyone you know -- whatever works for you.
2. Mobbers are to spend at least $20 at the pre-selected business. You will not know the business until that day. (That's the first fun part!)
2. Meet 3 people you didn't know before. (The 2nd fun part!)
3. Join together for drinks or food at a pre-selected bar/restaurant for the aftermob. (The final fun part!)
If you're interested in reading more about "cash mobs," just google it. The trend has been very successful and popular and is moving around the country. Let's put Owego and our Tioga County communities on the map and help our businesses benefit from this idea.
As an FYI - "National Cash Mob Day" is Saturday, March 24. That's the day we will have our first 'CASHMOB-OWEGO!" 22 MORE DAYS TO CASH MOB-OWEGO! BE THERE! Spread the word...
